Rödl energie and BayWa Mobility Solutions GmbH inaugurate LNG service station at bayernhafen Nürnberg
The green light for more environmentally friendly freight transport in Nuremberg
Nuremberg/Neumarkt – 09.07.2020 – From today, logistics companies and freight forwarders can now refuel their trucks with LNG in Nuremberg. The Newmarkt-based energy supplier Rödl energie and the wholly owned member of the BayWa Group, BayWa Mobility Solutions GmbH (BMS) from Munich, combined forces to build a service station to supply the innovative fuel, LNG, at the traffic-friendly location in bayernhafen Nürnberg. In addition to cutting CO2 emissions by around 15%, LNG delivers significant reductions in pollutants and noise emissions, lower fuel consumption and greater cost savings. Drivers can refuel using cards supplied by the two companies Tankpool24 and BayWa, with instructions provided when using the system for the first time.
“Through LNG, we are making a clear commitment to the future. As an entrepreneur, I work with what I can already do now, not what will be possible in five years’ time. Anyone who is serious about protecting the environment and reducing their carbon footprint must invest in LNG, while also not losing sight of developments in the future,” explains Managing Director, Stefan Rödl, on why he is investing in LNG. In addition to the service station at the port in Nuremberg, he is already planning to open two more LNG filling stations. He currently sees the greatest potential for this fuel in providing more environmentally friendly heavy goods transportation until alternative technologies such as hydrogen fuels cells and e-fuels reach market maturity.
BayWa is opening its third LNG service station in Germany at the port in Nuremberg. “We opened the service station in Wolfsburg at the beginning of April, followed shortly afterwards by the service station in Nördlingen in Bavaria,” says Dr. Klaus Mohrenweiser, the Managing Director of BMS. “The port of Nuremberg has enabled us to establish another LNG station at a location with excellent transport links. And we have further LNG service stations in the pipeline. The next LNG service station will be opening in Eching, near Munich.”
