Cargo transfer facilities
Our trimodal infrastructure and suprastructure delivers countless efficient handling solutions for the specific requirements of a wide range of commodities, such as bulk/break bulk cargo, heavy-lift goods or containers.
bayernhafen Nürnberg operates 8 full gantry level-luffing cranes delivering up to 40 tonnes of lifting capacity that can also be deployed in twin handling operations. Interchangeable grapples enable optimum adaptability to suit specific deployment situations. We provide the right equipment (various grapples and corresponding slings) to suit each commodity. In addition, the local handling companies provide conveyor belt systems and chutes.
- Rail-mounted full gantry level-luffing cranes delivering lifting capacity of up to 40 t: 8
- Heavy-lift transfer site with heavy-lift platform and hydraulic strand jack system for loads of up to 600 t: 1
- Roll-on/roll-off facilities for loads of up to 1,250 t: 1
- Trimodal handling facility for combined transport: 1
- Reach stacker on the water module: 1
Heavy-lift handling
bayernhafen Nürnberg provides excellent conditions for handling goods and cargo weighing up to 1,250 tonnes. Established in 1972, the roll-on/roll-off facilities were the first of their kind at a European inland port. They enable bulky, extra-long and exceptionally heavy cargo to be loaded onto barge. The range of heavy-lift and bulk cargo includes nuclear reactor components, tanks, crane components, melting furnaces, chemical industry equipment, heavy machinery, floating dredges and yachts as well as a broad range of large-scale transformers. At the beginning of 2012, a hydraulic strand jack system for loads of up to 600 tonnes was added to the facilities. The continual availability of these crane facilities results in savings not only in terms of time, but also in terms of costs.
Equipment or structural components, whose clearance profiles in their finished state would exceed those of rail or road systems, can be assembled on a reinforced and floodlit area immediately prior to loading. This saves expensive assembly in the destination country and avoids the strain that oversized cargo transport places on road networks. For the large-scale transformer and heavy machinery construction companies based in the Nuremberg metropolitan region, this is one of the decisive factors for their commitment to the region..
The company responsible for operating and marketing the heavy-lift transfer sites is Züst & Bachmeier Project GmbH.
